Setting your Carrier Method of Delivery (Entry Point)

Carrier shipping rates (except for USPS) depend to a very significant degree on how you deliver your packages to them. Picking the correct option for the Entry Point will assure that the rates generated by our calculator are as accurate as possible. The private carriers typically offer a discounted "Daily Pickup" rate along with various versions of more expensive retail rates for other entry methods. Differences in the ship rate charged between these are as much as 30% or more, and any accessorial fees (such as the fee for residential delivery) also differ. So make sure you set your correct entry method in AuctionInc!
If you use Daily Pickup, the private carriers will charge you a weekly service fee in addition to your actual shipping charges. The amount of this weekly fee us usually based on your average shipping volume. In AuctionInc this weekly fee is not automatically added in to the shipping rate. Instead, if you wish to pass the fee back to your customers, you can choose to add an additional charge under "Misc Cost" for the appropriate carrier services (Settings Menu => Carrier Services, Fees and Insurance). Fees entered in "Misc Cost" are not subject to any handling maximums you may also configure.
Below are the entry method details for each carrier that offers them:
Scheduled pickup means a UPS driver automatically stop by every business weekday to pick up packages. A weekly service charge applies. Shipping rates are calculated using "daily" rate schedules, significantly more inexpensive than retail rates.
As long as you have UPS account and qualify for Daily rates, you should select Daily Pickup here; even if you use Drop-Off or Retail Outlets to deliver your packages you will still qualify for the Daily Rate.
NOTE: The Weekly Service Charge is not factored into the rates of the Shipping Calculator. If you want to account for the fee, you can add a value to the "Misc Cost" field for each service that you have enabled.
The One-Time Pickup service offered by UPS allows shippers that don't use Daily Pickup to contact UPS to have packages picked up at their location. The shipper can schedule the pickup with UPS via telephone (1-800-PICK-UPS) or by the web site and can choose the pickup for the same day or a future date. UPS adds a fee for Ground and 3 Day Select® services on a per package basis but offers discounts for scheduling via the web and for a future dates.
Ground Services gives you the convenience of having your shipment picked up at your home or office the next weekday, Monday through Friday, when using UPS 3 Day Select® and Ground services. One Time Pickup Service fees are shown in the above table which are added to each piece shipped for UPS ground services.
Air Services gives you the convenience of having your shipment picked up on demand at your home or office in major metropolitan areas, Monday through Saturday, when using the following UPS services:
In most cases, UPS can pick up your shipment on the same day your request is made, depending on your pickup location and the time your order is placed.
If you are a UPS automatic daily pickup customer, there is no additional charge for your UPS On Call Air Pickup (Monday through Friday). Otherwise On Call Air Pickup charges are $4.00 more per piece than the list rates for UPS air services.
For all Saturday UPS On Call Air Pickups, there is a charge of $10.00 more per piece than the weekday pickup rates for UPS air services.
AuctionInc automatically adds the appropriate Pickup fee ($3.00 - $5.00) for the ground services and the $4.00 fee for each air package but does not account for the Saturday service fee of $10.00.
If you have and use a FedEx account number, you should select "Regular Pickup" as your entry method. FedEx will charge you their "discount" rate, without surcharges, if you bill to your account with them regardless of how you deliver your package.
These entry points, which include FedEx Centers, Kinkos, and affiliated centers, charge an additional fee which varies depending on the carrier service. The increased fee covers the personalized service available at the "retail counter."
If you have regular scheduled pickups, any fees that may you may be charged (FedEx may charge fees if your weekly package total is not over a certain number) are not factored into the rates of the Shipping Calculator. If you want to account for the fee, you can add a value to the "Misc Cost" field for each service that you have enabled.
DHL charges a $3 fee for requesting a one-time pickup. (If DHL picks up more than 4 packages at the same time, the fee is waived. Our shipping calculator will not take this potential discount into account.)
NOTE: The Weekly Service Fee is not factored into the rates of the Shipping Calculator. If you want to account for the fee, you can add a value to the "Misc Cost" field for each service that you have enabled.
